An Opportunity for the Community to Support Cantley’s 2026 Remembrance Ceremony

Last November, during Remembrance Week, Cantley marked an important moment in its community history with the establishment and inauguration of the new Cantley Veterans Monument at Parc Mary-Anne-Phillips. This project, led with determination by Cantley 1889 and supported by many volunteers, partners and members of the community, provided Cantley with a permanent place of remembrance, reflection and gratitude.
This monument is more than a stone and a plaque. It represents a collective commitment: the commitment to remember the many women and men from Cantley and the surrounding area who served Canada, since our community’s official founding in 1889, and before, as well as the sacrifices made by their families. The article published in L'Echo de Cantley in November 2025 highlighted the long road that led to the realization of this project, from the original idea to the installation of the monument and the inaugural ceremony.
The annual Remembrance Ceremony has also been officially recognized by the Municipal Council of Cantley. On June 9, 2026, Council adopted a resolution recognizing the long-term importance of the Veterans Monument and supporting the organization of an annual Remembrance Ceremony open to all residents of Cantley.
Building on the success of that first ceremony, the organizing committee is now preparing Cantley’s 2026 Remembrance Ceremony, which will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Parc Mary-Anne-Phillips, located at 47 chemin Summer. A community reception will follow at the Cantley Community Centre. All residents of Cantley, as well as residents of neighbouring communities, are welcome.
To help make this ceremony dignified, accessible and welcoming, we are launching a call to the community for sponsorships, donations and in-kind contributions. This is a meaningful opportunity for residents, organizations, local businesses and community partners in Cantley to support this important commemorative activity in our municipality.
We are currently seeking Support for the following needs:
- portable toilets on site at Parc Mary-Anne-Phillips;
- shuttle service or mini-bus transportation between the Cantley Community Centre and Parc Mary-Anne-Phillips;
- food, coffee, tea, water, juice or snacks for the reception following the ceremony;
- donations, purchases or sponsorships of commemorative wreaths;
- metal flag stand capable of holding three to five flags;
- weather-resistant lectern for outdoor remarks;
- logistical, material, financial or volunteer support to assist with the organization of the Event.
Contributions can take many forms: a financial donation, loan of equipment, donated service, discount, food contribution, transportation support, purchase of a commemorative wreath, purchase or loan of ceremonial equipment, or any other form of assistance. Every gesture, large or small, will help make this ceremony respectful and meaningful.
We would also very much welcome stories, old and new, of family members and friends who served our country in war and in peace.
Remembrance Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a moment when a community chooses to gather to honour service, courage and sacrifice. In Cantley, this ceremony also helps pass this memory on to younger generations and reminds us that our local history 1s connected to the many families who have contributed, in their own way, to the service of Canada.
